Hello Vimala! How are you? Hello! I’m fine.
When and where you born and brought up? I am Australian origin. I was born and brought up in Australia on Jan 23rd.
Tell us something about your family. vimala-raman02I have an elder brother who works at New York. Both my parents work. My dad’s a civil engineer while my mum works for the Australian Federal Government. She has been working for the past 20 years. I’m the baby of the family and have been pampered a lot. I’m the pet of the family. My family has always been very supportive with me. Originally Tamil by tongue but our forefathers have settled in Bangalore.
Where did your schooling take place and what are your qualifications? I have graduated in dance (Bharathanatyam) and IT from the University of New South Wales. I have been to a private school called the MLC School at Sydney. Learnt dance in Australia itself from Kalasketra in Chennai.
How did acting happen as a career? vimala-ramanl-hotIt was K. Balachander Sir who introduced me into movies. My first movie was a Tamil movie with Uday Kiran. The movie was “Poi”. It was later dubbed into Telugu as “Abhadam”. After this movie I have done eight Malayalam moves. My recent Tamil movie “Raman Thediya Seethai” with Cheran has been appreciated by one and all. I won 3 awards for this movie. I call it total destiny. I never had the idea to act. I have seen loads and loads of Indian movie but never thought I would be acting. I call it total destiny if you ask me how acting happened as a career. I never had the idea to act. I have seen loads and loads of Indian movie but never thought I would be acting. I have even given many stage performances. I had won Miss India Australia too. I had offers for, but I hadn’t considered them since I didn’t want my studies to be interrupted. But, later I gave it a shot.
Tell us about your debut movie “Poi”. vimala-raman03I was scared. It was all new to me. Acting is not much different from the dance I have learnt that is Bharathanatyam. I was very very very excited. My co-star Uday Kiran was very helpful to me and is someone nice to work with.
Who are your favorite actresses? Actually there are many to name. Julia Roberts, Mel Gibson, George Clooney, Akshay Kumar, Sri Devi, Kamal Hassan to name a few.
Your favorite cuisine? I simply love eating the road side chat. It tastes so delicious and so lovely. I’m not much into Indian food and I’m a vegetarian. I love Italian and Mexican.
What are your hobbies? vimala-raman-allI love Dance and shopping. Shopping gives me a lot of relief from the stress. I also like traveling. I had made a resolution to visit a new country every year. I had been to Egypt last year. While we are outside on shooting, there’s no time to go around the country you visit. You have time only for your work. For my first movie we had been to Austria and Italy, but didn’t have enough time to look around. I have traveled so much in India too. I have got to see many scenic places in Andhra, Kerela, and Tamil Nadu. If I had been a normal girl I wouldn’t have got to see so many beautiful places.
What do you when you are at home not shooting? I sit in front of the T.V with the laptop in my lap and I keep browsing the net. Can’t stay without my mobile and laptop.
Who’s your favorite singer or band? I like Akon and Pussy Cat Dolls.
What are your upcoming movies? vimala-raman05In Telugu there is this movie called “Evaraina Epudiana” and I have “ApthaRakshaka” in Kannada, which is “ChandraMukhi-2” and continuation for “ApthaMitra” which is “ChandraMukhi-1”. I play the role of NagaValli and I just hope that I will reach the standards of Soundarya (who was in “ApthaMitra”).
What is your dream role? Portray a role as a dancer, in that of “Mayuri”. I was inspired a lot by Sudha Chandran. This dream of mine has been fulfilled by the role of NagaValli in the movie “ApthaRakshaka”. I also want to do a historic role, like that of Jodha in “JodhaAkbar” or that of Rekha in “UmraoJaan”.
Who is your role model? Family.
What is your definition for acting? Acting is just…hmmm….a form of self discipline just like dancing and meditation. It is a form of expression
How did your friends react when you entered films? Did their attitude towards you change? still01Noooooo, not at all. All my friends were so proud of me. They have been and are very supportive. They are very proud of my achievements. When we meet up we are back to our usual selves. Playing pranks and all.
Getting a bit personal, who was your first crush? It was when I was in school. I must have been some 13 or 14 when I had a crush on this boy at the coffee shop. He was a typical Australian. I used to go everyday there to buy cookies or coffee only to have a look at him. I was very shy and used to look at him from a distance. I used to buy coffee and leave.
Any man in your life now? No, absolutely none. It’s depressing to think that I have no boyfriend, when all my friends have one. But, there’s no time to maintain one too.
Your ideal man or the man you dream about? vimala_raman22373957_stdNot thought about him as yet. You can just find them in movies. But he should be a good friend, have a good sense of humor. He should trust you. And his wavelength, I mean the way we think, should match.
Your definition for love? Love for me has a broad meaning. It can be anything family, friends, anyone. It’s the feeling that gives you content. It’s someone who witness’ your life. I haven’t thought about marriage yet.
What is the secret of your beauty and fitness? Being a positive person even during your worst times. I dance for fitness. Do yoga, it can be even for 10 minutes. I stay on salads, drink lots of water and have a good sleep.
What is the secret of your success? 1175236224vimala-raman-news-3037I don’t know. Continuing to go with what’s happening in life. Be focused on your work with passion and belief.
What’s the best comment you have received from your fans or anyone else? That I look like my mom. Many guys called me up and said want wife’s as Ranjitha my character’s name in my recent Tamil movie, “Raman Thediya Seethai”.
Any means for your fans to contact you? vimala-raman-all-hot-asia-17I don’t check my mail, but they can find me on Facebook. There are many accounts on my name but I guess you can find out which is mine.
Message for debutants entering into the industry. You should go for what you want. Lots of hard work and focus is required.
